As police continue to investigate the death of a New York mom whose body was found stuffed in a duffel bag with some 58 stab wounds, sources say the killer left a piece of evidence that is being tested for DNA.
Orsolya Gaal, age 51, was found around 8 a.m., Saturday, April 16, in Forest Hills, Queens, by two walkers in the area after a blood trail led to her home at 72-24 Juno St., said the NYPD.
NYPD officials have declined to offer information on the case, but high-ranking law enforcement sources reportedly told the New York Post that a pair of blood-soaked boots were found in a trash can outside the garage of the Tudor-style home.
A handyman who did work at Gaal's home is also being sought for questioning in the case, but the NYPD has not publicly identified the man or a suspect.
What is known is that Gaal went to a show at Lincoln Center with friends on Friday and then visited the Forest Hills Station House, a favorite bar of Gaal's where she had her "usual" Moscow mule to drink and a bite to eat before leaving alone around 12:30 a.m., Saturday, the Post reported.
Police sources also said they believe Gaal was followed home by her killer.
A video from a neighborhood doorbell camera caught a figure dragging the bloody duffel bag away from the Gaal home around 4:30 a.m.
There was no sign of forced entry into the house, leading police to believe the killer knew Gaal, sources have said.
It has been reported the handyman knew where the family kept a spare key.
Police have been seen plastering wanted posters around the quiet neighborhood offering a $3,500 reward for information leading them to the killer.
Detectives are also hoping that DNA evidence from the boots will help: “You don’t stick a knife in somebody 60 times without getting injured,” one high-ranking police source told the New York Post. “You hit somebody that hard and you’re going to hurt your hand. DNA could have been left behind.”
